Private Photography Lessons - Sunshine Coast
SUNNY COAST
I’ll be on the Sunshine Coast in January. Book in now to get your photography one-on-one’s locked in and set yourself up for a great year of photography.
After more than 10 years teaching photography at RMIT, and 30 years as a professional photographer, I’ve found that sweet spot when teaching the technical and the creative — explaining the camera stuff in plain English, while helping you explore light, creativity, composition and design.
I’d love to help you get more from your camera, discover your photographic voice, and feel confident creating the kind of images you’re proud of.
You’ll find my Classes and Photo Walks listed below, but if you’d prefer something a bit more personalised, I also offer Private Photography Lessons.
One-on-one sessions designed just for you. Whether you’re brand new to photography or wanting to take things to the next level, we’ll focus on what you want to learn — from camera settings and composition to working with light and developing your creative eye.
$175 for 1.5 hours — available on the Sunshine Coast or in Melbourne.
Or book four sessions for $600.
Get in touch via the contact page if you’d like to chat about what you’d love to learn or find a time that works for you.

Start 2026 with a creative reset and see yourself - and your photography - through fresh eyes.
Photography for Women is a six-week creative exploration designed to help you slow down, observe, reconnect with yourself, and express your unique perspective through the camera.
For women of any age or experience level, there’s no mansplaining or tech overload - just a welcoming space with an experienced photography teacher, to explore your creativity, self-expression and identity while improving your photography skills and confidence.
Photography is a powerful tool for self-discovery and personal expression. Each week, you will be guided to develop your photographic voice through projects that encourage reflection, experimentation and exploration behind the lens.
Together, we’ll create an inspiring, judgment-free space to explore ideas, celebrate individuality and extend your photographic skills.
By the end of the course, you will have created a cohesive collection of printed images to display that hold real meaning and personal connection.

The first Saturday of every month I host a photowalk, organised through Prahran Place Community Centre. If you’d like to join me, and take a walk with your camera, you can Book Here.
Each month I provide a new topic or theme for you to follow. We have a chat about it to get started. Then we go for a walk and take some photos, and then meet up for a coffee. It’s a great way to explore a new location, meet some new people, challenge yourself creatively and get some exercise too. There’s no pressure, it’s meant to be fun, not hard work!
A Photo Walk with Deb is a great way to explore a new location, (or rediscover your own suburb), meet some new people, challenge yourself creatively and get some exercise too. There’s no pressure, it’s fun, not hard work! Put the phone down and stop doom scrolling, dust off the camera (and charge your batteries!) and meet us for a fun and creative Sunday morning walk in Fitzroy.
With 30 years’ experience as a professional photographer and over a decade teaching at RMIT, Deb brings both deep knowledge and a down-to-earth approach to photography. On a photo walk/scavenger hunt with Deb, you can expect:
Fresh Eyes – guidance on how to see the world differently, noticing details, light, and perspectives that might otherwise be overlooked.
Practical Tips – hands-on support with camera settings, composition, and techniques, explained in a clear and approachable way.
Creative Confidence – encouragement to experiment and trust your instincts, building skills while keeping photography fun.
Personalised Feedback – gentle, constructive advice tailored to each participant’s level and style.
Community Connection – a welcoming environment where participants share ideas, inspire one another, and celebrate creativity together.
Deb’s teaching style is patient, engaging, and empowering—ideal for beginners finding their feet as well as enthusiasts wanting to spark fresh inspiration.
Modern cameras do an amazing job, but they’re still just a machine, and they don’t think or see the way you do. Learn how to take control of your camera to get the creative outcome you desire, instead of letting a machine make all the decisions for you.
Learn about depth of field and stopping or showing movement as well as adjusting exposure for creative effect. Figure out when to use P, Av. Tv (or S) or go full Manual. And find out how ISO fits into all of that, as well as much more.
This course runs for 4 weeks with practical exercises to reinforce what you learn.
Currently on offer at Prahran Place.
Wednesday nights 6pm - 8pm. 8th to 29th October 2025 (4 weeks)
