Time for Tea with Tim Tams and tealights on a timber tray

Fuji X-T2 18-55mm
ISO 400 35mm f/16 1sec
Window light on left, candle light with a hint of tungsten light coming from the right.

Comments: Does it make me a realist or a pragmatist or just a stick in the mud to struggle with the visual need to have the fabric draped to create folds for visual appeal when there’s not a chance in hell you’d ever place a tablecloth that way in real life?
Anyway, best tip (again) is to always photograph food you like to eat (towards the end of this shoot there was nothing but crumbs left to photograph! )

S is for ...

Scissors and string and a spoon full of spice, with a splash of spring onion on the side.

Shot late at night in the kitchen with an ordinary desk lamp. Background is some old boards I rescued from rotting in the garden.

Q is also for... Quintessential

Every so often, someone convinces me to get up at ridiculous o'clock to go and take photos in 4degree temperatures. And I never regret it.

Q is for Queen

ISO 200 60mm f/6.4 1/60sec
Raided the piggy bank, placed coins on a piece of orange cardboard, used a bendy lamp light to create texture and shadows.

Handheld as I was experimenting with angles. Played with Hue and Saturation in Lightroom to make the orange look redder.

Comments: This was a late night practice shot to get some ideas on what might work when I did the 'proper' shot. But I haven't gotten around to doing it again so this will do or I'll never get to the end of the alphabet!

P is for Pomegranate

ISO 200 55mm f/11 1/15sec
Light from a desk lamp. Camera on tripod. Operated through phone app.

Comments: It can be difficult getting the Styling and the Lighting to do exactly what you want. Which is fine if you don’t have to match a brief because you can just go with whatever works. I find Still LIfe setups either work straight away, effortlessly, or they take forever and frustrate the hell out of you. This one wasn’t coming together the way I wanted. Maybe I can blame working in a corner of the loungeroom with makeshift equipment? At one point a reflector fell on the set and broke a bit off one of the pomegranates. Anyway, it has a sort of painterly look that I like so I can live with it.
